Common Issues
Quick fixes for the most common problems.
SiteQuest Won't Open
Try these steps in order:
- Check if SiteQuest is already running — look in your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (macOS)
- Restart your computer and try again
- Reinstall SiteQuest — download the latest version from the website
Sidebar Not Appearing
If the sidebar doesn't show up:
- Press your toggle shortcut to bring it back (default
Ctrl+Spaceon Windows; configurable on macOS — see Settings > Shortcuts) - Check your system tray — SiteQuest might be running but hidden
- Right-click the SiteQuest icon in the tray and select Show Sidebar
Links or Websites Not Opening
SiteQuest handles link clicks differently depending on how you click:

| Left-click a link | Opens inside SiteQuest sidebar |
| Middle-click (scroll wheel click) a link | Opens in your default system browser |
| Right-click a link → Open in Sidebar | Forces the link to open inside SiteQuest |
A link isn't responding at all?
- Some sites block clicks in embedded contexts. Right-click the link and choose Open in Sidebar or Open in Browser.
- If a site's navigation doesn't work inside SiteQuest, try enabling JavaScript for that site in Settings > Site Preferences.
Middle-clicking any link is the fastest way to pop it out into your regular browser while keeping your place in SiteQuest.
AI Not Responding
If the AI assistant isn't working:
- Using Cloud AI? Check your internet connection and Pro subscription
- Using Local AI? Make sure Ollama is running (
http://localhost:11434) - Try switching AI providers in Settings > AI
- Restart SiteQuest
Downloads Not Working
If downloads fail:
- Check your storage space
- Make sure your default download folder exists
- Try a different site to rule out site-specific issues
Sync Not Working
If your data isn't syncing between devices:
- Sign out and sign back in
- Check your Pro subscription is active
- Ensure all devices are on the same account
- Wait a few minutes — sync can take a moment
App Feels Slow
- Close tabs you're not using
- Reduce the number of pinned tabs
- Restart SiteQuest
- Check your computer's memory usage
